John Smith and Son are a long-established major bookseller who have found new digital opportunities to deliver a range of online services to students across multiple campus sites. We have enjoyed working with them since 2003 and the latest version of their website is a technical masterpiece. The site structure enables new location-specific websites to be set up rapidly – the CMS then enables John Smith to manage their own website promotions and pricing across over 8 million product lines in over 40 universities and other academic institutions.
Oversight of all these website activities is maintained by a central team. The websites show the entire scope of books currently in print and their eBook equivalents. A limitless range of complementary products – from laptops to bicycles – is included, as well as product ranges unique to individual institutions. The highly flexible payment system enables students to make purchases using a pre-funded 'Aspire' card, to pay with their own money, or a combination of both.
